Gareth Lloyd was a fresh faced 22 year old when he started as an Electrician with CJK in 2002. He had just completed his apprenticeship and little did he know then what lay ahead of him. We spoke to Gareth about his journey with CJK over the last 20 years.
WHAT HAVE YOU LIKED ABOUT WORKING WITH CJK?
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO PURSUE FURTHER EDUCATION?
I always felt I’d more to give and my focus, over time, turned to management. I had reached my full potential as an electrician and it was time for me to take on a new challenge.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY.
In 2018, I started my educational journey, supported by CJK, and completed a Diploma in Project Management in Dublin Business School.
My appetite for knowledge and further education grew and in 2019, I took on the challenge of a Masters Degree (Msc) in Project Management in UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business College. A Masters Degree is something that I never thought would be attainable or achievable for me but with determination, focus, a willingness to learn and the support of my wife, lecturers and CJK, I graduated with an honours degree this year. An amazing achievement for someone who had never attended University before.
HOW HAS THIS SHAPED YOUR CAREER?
CJK have recognised this effort and I am now part of their senior management team as a Business Unit Lead. A role I am thoroughly enjoying.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR GARETH?
My educational journey is not over yet. With the full support of CJK, I am currently studying for a diploma in Business Finance at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. If I can do this, you can too!
